Supplemental Income for RetireesRetirement -- Can You Afford It? Many Baby Boomers will soon be retiring with an income barely able to meet their needs. While they are generally retiring earlier, living longer, enjoying better health, and have accumulated more material wealth, they are financially less prepared for retirement than the generation that preceded them. The U.S. Department of Labor has stated that 90% of those retiring in the next 20 years (2008 -- 2028) will be living on a fixed annual income of $12,000 or less! Many Baby Boomers simply cannot afford to retire, nor will they be able to continue working productively either. They will be forced to live on an income significantly lower than they earned while employed, or find a means of generating a supplemental income. With rising fuel costs, massive home foreclosures, corporate downsizing, and failing banks dominating the daily news reports, it is easy to become discouraged and simply give up on your retirement dreams. It is not so much about what we are given to see, as it is from where we see it....point of view is ultimately important..!!
