At times, the discord of our world appears to be without sense or sensibility. The TV news channels overflow with stories of conflict and death and destruction. Grief, sadness and sorrow seem to be the order of the day. At the risk of sounding a bit "New Age", the greatest challenge Boomers face in the next 19 years is maintaining a sense of 'center and purpose' in their lives. Depression, or impoverished thinking is the precursor to physical illness and withdrawal from family and loved ones. Boomers were born and grew up in the years immediately following WWII -- a time of great excitement and hope. Horizons were being broadened at an unheard of pace, and opportunity lay around every corner. Today's world wherein those Boomers are given to retire, has changed even more dramatically. Sometimes, we must wonder where did common sense disappear to? What has happened to Yankee Ingenuity?? When did individual thought become a quality that deserves to be reviled with suspicion? Where has individual responsibility and integrity fled in the mad race to make and accumulate material wealth? These are the times when we are most in need of spiritual inspiration. Today's world suffers not from that which has been added to our understanding, but that which we have been willing to put aside and/or give away in our mindless pursuit of wealth and privilege, ... i.e., truth and trust -- integrity and responsibility -- judgment and common sense -- the values of brotherly love and good will to all men... Hope and enthusiasm are on the wane, and many are crying out that the end is near. Many, with whom I have consulted in developing the theme for this website, have made it clear that they are confused and feeling powerless in the face of seemingly insurmountable problems. In short, they are frightened and angry.....given to the need for spiritual inspiration as they transition into their retirement years.
